Welcome!

The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) has recently awarded Friday Harbor’s Mayor Carrie Lacher with a Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) Award.  The award recognizes the Mayor’s advocacy on behalf of the Town at AWC events, conferences and legislative efforts.

The CML program is designed to enhance the ability of elected officials by providing knowledge and skills to efficiently operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds and foster community and staff relationships. A key requirement to earn this distinction is for elected officials to earn at least 30 credits by attending a variety of AWC sponsored municipal workshops.  These courses help mayors and councilmembers learn the essentials of municipal service.  Mayor Lacher participated in courses that included budget, fiscal management and economic development.

Mayor Lacher is the only current Town elected official to have earned this award, and the first official to have done so since 2008 when former Mayor David Jones earned the certificate.

Founded in 1933, the Association of Washington Cities is a private, non-profit, non-partisan corporation that represents Washington’s cities and towns before the State legislature and other regulatory agencies.  Membership is voluntary, however AWC maintains 100% participation from Washington’s 281 cities and towns.

Mayor Carrie Lacher

It is our honor and pleasure to welcome you to our Digital Town Hall.  We believe we are taking a great step toward making Friday Harbor's government more open and responsive to your needs.

Our Internet site presents a convenient way for you to keep in touch with upcoming Town business. Our goal is to keep you fully informed of our agendas, public issues, and other activities.

To save you a trip to Town Hall, you can now access the entire Friday Harbor Municipal Code, selected ordinances, and a summary of our budget, use email to provide comments for public hearings, check on solid waste, recycling, and thrift house hours.

Most importantly, this site creates an easy way for you to contact your elected officials and Town employees.

Please keep in touch, and let us know how we can improve.  Thanks for dropping by.

"Civilization is the encouragement of differences. Civilization thus becomes a synonym of democracy. Force, violence, pressure, or compulsion with a view to conformity, is both uncivilized and undemocratic." -- Mahatma Gandhi
