Historic Preservation Review Board

In 1998, the Town of Friday Harbor created a Historic Preservation Program (HPRB) and the Historic Preservation Review Board to serve in an advisory capacity to the Town Council. The Board considers and recommends measures that will encourage and foster preservation of historic structures, sites, or districts and conducts design review for construction projects in the Historic District.

Historic Overlay District

The Historic Preservation Overlay District is defined by the FHMC. This overlay district is intended to preserve structures, buildings, appurtenances, and places that are of basic and vital importance for defining a historic sense of place.

Heritage resources are defined by their association with history; because of their unique architectural style and scale, including color, proportions, form, and architectural details; or because of their being a part of or related to a square, park, or area of cultural, historical, or architectural importance to Friday Harbor.
